The TBN Guide to Lolla 2017

As discussed in my previous post, I always head into music festivals with a bit of a game plan. Out of recognition that not everyone has the time or experience to properly do so, I’m compiling all of the planning I put my blood, sweat, and tears into to share with all you moochies.

First, let’s start off with all the things that are new this year:

  • Petrillo is now Tito’s stage and Samsung is now Grant Park.
  • There is a Citi viewing stage near Grant Park.
  • Rumor has it there will be flushable port-o-potties…don’t expect anything all that luxurious, but at Electric Forest, these were much less gross than the regular ones.
  • You can pre-order your beer (!!!) through the Lolla app and skip the lines!
  • There are tons of games everywhere, a beer garden, and a roller rink (across from Perry’s). Check in the courtyards around Buckingham Fountain.
  • Platinum’s viewing areas are now really damn close.

Now onto the music. Because I do have a full-time job, I may have to update daily, but for now I’ll add Thursday’s info:

  • Porter Robinson After his Shelter tour with Madeon, the 22 year old Porter Robison is back with his killer Worlds set at Lollapalooza.
  • Liam Gallagher You probably know Oasis’s Wonderwall and Champagne Supernova, but the foul-mouthed ex-Oasis member is still going strong solo
  • Cage the Elephant You came to Lollapalooza for a show? Look no further than Cage the Elephant, who fucking KILLED it at Lolla 2014. And, sure enough, it’s set to rain again during their set.
  • A-Trak He won the DJ World Championships at 15 and held five titles by 18. He was also Kanye’s DJ for a long time. Anyway, this is where I’ll be bringing by dad to get him stop bitching about EDM.

Other Solid Acts

  • Lorde (obviously)
  • Declan McKenna
  • Capital Cities
  • Gryffin
  • Atlas Genius
  • Kaytranada
  • Bauuer
  • $uicide Boy$
  • Hippo Campus
  • Elohim
  • Golf Clap
  • The Drums

Because I can’t see *everyone*, here’s my schedule for Thursday.

  • The Killers Bring on the nostalgia
  • Mura Masa The band whose songs you love but whose name you didn’t know
  • Phantogram My absolute #1 for the day. This duo is rock n’ roll AF and some of the best live performers I’ve ever seen

Other Solid Acts

  • Run the Jewels – I actually find their rap really hard to hear live and the pit can get rowdy, but I’m into their message.
  • San Holo
  • Blink-182 (more nostalgia)
  • Gramatik

Because I can’t see *everyone*, here’s my schedule for Friday:

Talk about headliner conflicts. Bring your running shoes if you hope to see some of all four. For the rest of the day, here are my opinions:

  • Glass Animals My mom’s personal favorite, Glass Animals’ have a distinctive sound and tongue-in-cheek vibe.
  • Jai Wolf At a nice intimate stage, his Indian-influenced songs are perfect for a sunset set.
  • Chance the Rapper Hometown boy has not-so-slowly worked his way up from an early slot to mainstage headliner.
  • The xx Finally back after a long awaited return, the Mercury Prize winners know how to put on a show. Plus, the genuine friendship between Oliver and Romy gives me warm fuzzies.

Other Solid Acts

  • G Jones
  • Royal Blood
  • Gramatik
  • Slyvan Esso
  • Warpaint
  • Vance Joy
  • Banks
  • Alison Wonderland – personally, her live performances annoy me, but I’m outnumbered

Because I can’t see *everyone*, here’s my schedule for Saturday:

Forget headliner conflicts, Sunday is, in my opinion, absolutely stacked. I had to make a lot of sacrifices, but here are my opinions:

  • Justice After only catching a bit of their set at Coachella because I had to book it for Kendrick Lamar, I vowed to watch every. single. second. of their Lolla show.
  • Big Sean I am absolutely digging Big Sean lately, so I’ll be here singing along to Bounce Back/Moves/I Don’t Fuck With You/etc.
  • Rag n’ Bone Man A set that will likely give you goosebumps. Also, did anyone think he looked like that after hearing Human for the first time??

Other Solid Acts

  • Wax Motif
  • Car Seat Headrest
  • Charli XCX
  • Milky Chance
  • London Grammar
  • Whethan
  • The Shins
  • Arcade Fire
  • Zeds Dead
  • Noname
  • Tove Lo

Because I can’t see *everyone*, here’s my schedule for Sunday:
